Butch Cassidy, Sundance Kid & Wild Bunch Hangout!
Many have said that this is the house that Butch Cassidy built and lived in, but he didn’t. It was a hangout for some of the most notorious outlaws of all time, Butch Cassidy, The Sundance Kid, and their gang, The Wild Bunch. This tiny town whose population in 2022, was 408 people, was the site of notorious outlaw history. Stories exist of Butch Cassidy visiting here over two decades after he supposedly died. In this video, I’ll show you the sights and tell you the story of this outlaw hotspot.
Hey everybody this is Colonel Carson with Family Tree Nuts, and we recently visited the outlaw hang out of the Wild Bunch, in Baggs, Wyoming, and I wanted to show you the sights, and share the story with all of you. At Family Tree Nuts, we build family trees for clients that either don’t know how, don’t have the time, or don’t want to pay those expensive membership fees. We’d love to honor your ancestors for you. We also make history videos all over the United States, and a few countries, so if you like videos like these, be sure to subscribe to our channel, and give us a thumbs up if you liked this video.
Now back to the outlaws. Like I mentioned earlier, it has been said that this is the house that Butch Cassidy built and lived in, but he didn’t. Like so many other things in history, stories often get twisted around. The house was the home of Pearl Mathews Gaddis for over seventy years, and she ran a roadhouse that served meals and often provided lodging to passing strangers. On Saturday nights, the building turned into a dance hall and housed some wild parties that often lasted until the break of day. This house was frequented often by Butch Cassidy, the Sundance Kid, and their gang the Wild Bunch. It’s remote location was a perfect spot to hang out and blow off some steam. It is said that Butch even played his harmonica here during the parties.
Now, if you know the story Butch and Sundance, you know that it is said that they escaped and lived in South America. In fact, Butch is said to have committed suicide in Bolivia, in 1908. However, stories exist of him visiting this house off and on and as late as 1929 or 1930 when he was on a hunting trip. Legends often have several versions of their stories and perhaps we will never know exactly how and when he died.
The house is in Baggs, Wyoming, that was named after a local rancher. Today it is the Outlaw Stop Museum and displays life in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The sign states that they have free admission and are open from Memorial Weekend through “some cold day in October”. The complex also houses the Old Baggs Town Hall, the fire station, and the jail.
Also, not too far away is the grave of one of the Wild Bunch gang, Harvey Alexander Logan, known as “Kid Curry”. Like Cassidy, he supposedly committed suicide after a gunfight so that he wouldn’t be captured, but some say he escaped to South America with Butch and Sundance. He is supposedly buried in Glenwood Springs, Colorado in the same cemetery as Doc Holliday. Be sure to see our video from there to learn more about those stories.
So now we know the story of this remote hang out of the Wild Bunch. What do you think? Did you know that this historical treasure existed? What are your thoughts about the events that happened here? Have you ever been here, or do you now plan to visit? We’d love to hear what you have to say in the comments below. We are proud to share this little outlaw history story with all of you. And remember, Family Tree Nuts, let out nuts find the nuts in your family tree.

Doc Holliday's Ending! Old West History!
Переглядів 1,2 тис.14 днів тому
I’m your huckleberry! Doc Holliday is one of the most well-known figures from Old West, immortalized for fighting alongside the Earp brothers in the gunfight at the O.K. Corral. He was one of the best gamblers and gunslingers that the world has ever known. Many know about his bout with tuberculosis which tormented him, but few know the story about the end of his life and his final resting place...
Meeker Massacre! Old West History!
This massacre in a little town in northwest Colorado led to one of the largest losses of land for native tribes in the Old West. The attempt to Christianize and “civilize” the Indians backed the Ute Nation into a corner and put them in a rage to preserve their way of life. The U.S. army was called in, including some Buffalo Soldiers, to help calm the uprising. But the fire was too hot and explo...
Old West Bank Robbery Foiled by Citizens! Meeker, Colorado!
Most of us have heard the song “Try that in a small town” by Jason Aldean, and this story is a perfect example of the wrong town that outlaws picked for their mischief. The quote that has been used for this event is “This is what happens when citizens preserve law and order in their town”. In the Old West town of Meeker, Colorado, three Outlaws robbed the bank and then had to face the wrath of ...

Another post said essentially that a museum is the only place to display General Lee. Using that logic, I would say that a museum is the only place to display Martin Luther King's historical information. General Lee IS THE GREATEST AMERICA of all time. Every city in America should have a statue of the general. First, he was adamantly opposed to slavery. He provided for the freeing of ALL his slaves using the only available method allowed at the time before the War in Democratic slave states. He went to USMA and did not receive 1 demerit. He fought bravely in the Mexican-American War. He was offered command of ALL US forces at the beginning of the War Between the States. He only turned it down because he said, "I can not fight against my own kin in Virginia." After the War, he worked tirelessly to bind the wounds between North and South. He instituted the finest honor code ever at then Washington College (now Washington and Lee University) where he was president after the War until his death in 1870. Read about General Lee in his own words and you will get to know a man admired by friend and enemy alike.

I do not have Native DNA. However, my 3 children do as noted by their DNA test and family stories. Their paternal, great grandfather was a frenchman from Quebec area and came down the Mississippi and married a Native woman early on. I have no idea what tribe that would be. Research would have to be done to determine that.

Both of these small countries had empires , both spread their languages, culture, Christianity, even here in the United States, you can see both of their influences in the names of cities, towns, rivers, languages etc. I’m damn proud of that. I’m proud I’m from all of that strong gene pool! 🇺🇸🇬🇧🇪🇸

This is something that descendants of one of my mother's GGFs argue about to this day. Some descendants even tried to gain admittance into the Cherokee tribe when the land was being given out to them in the 1880s, etc. They were denied as my ancestor was not on the Cherokee Rolls prior to leaving the South. The amount of people who continue to believe this and argue about it to this day is crazy. I see this all the time about the Cherokee princess ancestor. Interestingly, it is never a Cherokee prince, lol. I have included all the information about the claims in my genealogy but do not put anything about a "Cherokee princess" in my pedigree. For one thing, THERE IS NO PROOF!. Kernels of truth sometimes come down through family lore but in the end you have to prove it. It doesn't disappoint me that I'm don't have Cherokee blood. I even argued with a cousin about this. She said "you can just look at my grandmother and see it"! This is why a lot of times I just go my own way in my research. It's preferable to butting my head against a brick wall.

I hear this from other parts of the country as well, not just in the south. Of course, two of my grandparents claimed to have NI heritage, one claimed Cherokee, but no princesses. However, the one most likely was one of my great grandmothers. She always claimed to have Comanche. Unfortunately, I only saw her twice as a small child, and did not know at that time to ask such questions. All of her family/relatives lived in McCurtain County, OK in the Choctaw Nation. I have not progressed very far in searching for records, especially while living abroad. I found the name of one of her ancestors on the Dawe's list as a Creek, but cannot verify if the correct one. Seems odd that she would be part Comanche living in the Choctaw Nation. All of my ancestors were in the US in the late 1600s, or early 1700s, and many lived in different areas of Native American nations. I don't know why my great-grandmother would claim to be Comanche at that time period unless it were true. There was much negativity at that time towards the Comanche. Wish I could go back in time to ask her the right questions. I can only remember her cows/horses, and that I loved brushing her long hair at night when she unbraided it. I have one ancestor who was a govt scout who came with Oglethorpe. The scout knew Chief McIntosh, but there were not tales of marriage passed down from that ancestral line.

My mom's side of the family is as Irish as you can get. Her mother was born in Scotland to Irish parents and her father's family was from Ireland. I did a DNA test and 100% of the DNA I got from my Mom was Irish. My Uncle Mike did a test and his came back like 98% Irish. I guess our family never left the island, until the late 1800s. My Dad's family was from Italy, but that half of my DNA was only 38% Italian. The rest was broadly Mediterranean (Greece, Albania, Cyprus, Aegean Islands)

In my family (as in many others), there is a 'old-wives-tale' family myth or legend, where the story goes that (distant female ancestor) was a native american princess, who was exiled for marrying a white man (rather than bringing the white man into the tribe) - but then, when you go to look up the geneology (both named, and genetically) there is no evidence for it. Not even visuals (any sort of photographic evidences) would correlate or correspond to such 'backyard myths', and instead you find something else, something unexpected, such as jewish or turkic or middle-eastern in the mix.

How could “Nail Devlin” with a full Irish bloodline with parents that speak Gaelic be Irish, how could he possibly claim he Irish. TONS of the Irish stories, myths, history left Ireland when millions of people left Ireland and they came to North and South America. We know our history because our relatives were there during history. Because an American goes and live in a different country, he isn’t qualified for to speak on his native country where his relatives lived for 100s of years? He has to live in America to talk about it? So dumb.

A lot of natives used and still use animal manure (horse, cow, sheep) for firing pottery which makes it hot enough to melt things. sometimes reaching over 2000 degrees F. That may be what they used.
